Jackson exits early after Perez goes on DL
Los Angeles Dodgers: Edwin Jackson was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas to start Saturday night's game against the Anaheim Angels, but the right-hander didn't last long.
Jackson had to leave with two outs in the second because of what the Dodgers called a mild strain of his pitching elbow, leaving him day-to-day.
The 20-year-old waved toward the Dodgers' dugout after throwing a pitch to Robb Quinlan. After a brief meeting at the mound, Jackson was replaced by Duaner Sanchez.
Jackson left with the Dodgers leading 4-2, having allowed a two-run homer by Vladimir Guerrero in the first.
The Dodgers made room for Jackson by placing left-hander Odalis Perez on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to June 27 because of inflamed rotator cuff.
Jackson was the winning pitcher in a 5-2 victory over Milwaukee on June 2, allowing three hits and one run in five innings. He is 6-4 with a 5.29 ERA in 15 starts with Las Vegas.
Jackson made three starts and one relief appearance with the Dodgers late last season, going 2-1 with a 2.45 ERA in 22 innings.
Perez was lifted after pitching five innings in a 7-5 loss to Anaheim on June 26. He has a 4-3 record with a 2.96 ERA in 16 starts this season.
Cincinnati Reds: Left-hander Mike Matthews will
have surgery Tuesday to remove bone chips from his elbow.
The Reds placed Matthews (2-1) on the disabled list Saturday, and recalled right-hander Ryan Wagner from Triple-A Louisville.
Wagner, optioned to Louisville on May 30, is 2-1 with a 6.75 ERA in 18 appearances for the Reds this season.
San Francisco Giants: The Giants optioned left-hander Noah Lowry to Triple-A Fresno after Saturday's game and will recall right-hander David Aardsma to take his place Sunday.
Lowry was 0-0 with a 3.48 ERA in five appearances for the Giants. He made a spot start last Tuesday in place of an injured Jerome Williams. But with Williams set to start Sunday, the Giants opted for another reliever.
Aardsma was 1-0 with a 4.91 ERA in nine games for the Giants earlier this season.
