KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Royals placed third baseman Mike Moustakas on the bereavement list and recalled infielder Cheslor Cuthbert from Triple-A Omaha before opening a four-game series against Tampa Bay on Monday night.
Moustakas left in the sixth inning of Sunday's victory over Minnesota. This is the second time he has been placed on the family medical emergency list.
The 22-year-old Cuthbert, who signed as an undrafted free agent in 2009, is making his first appearance on the 25-man roster. He hit .256 with eight homers and 33 RBIs for Omaha after playing most of last season at Double-A Northwest Arkansas, where he was a Texas League All-Star.
Cuthbert has split time between third base, first base and designated hitter.
