Vladimir Guerrero, who suffered a partial separation of his left shoulder May 20, is likely to be activated from the disabled list in time for the Angels' three-game series against the Mets, the L.A. Daily News reported Thursday.

The Angels' medical staff has been cautious with Guerrero, keeping him on the DL after he was eligible to come off it on June 5 and despite the outfielder's desire to return.

""He was bugging us last week, saying he had to start swinging if he's going to come off [when he was eligible June 5]," manager Mike Scioscia told the paper. "We told him he needed another week."

Guerrero took early batting practice on Wednesday and "killed the ball," according to Scioscia.

"His swing was great, his bat speed was great," Scioscia told the paper. "He took an aggressive BP, he's doing everything in the outfield and he looks good. His running, his legs feel very, very good. Everything points to him being very close."

The Angels have gone 10-8 in Guerrero's absence. The five-time All-Star is hitting .303 with seven homers and 24 RBI in 41 games. This is only the second time he had been on the DL since 1997.

Guerrero was injured when he made a headfirst dive while trying to score on a double by Steve Finley and was tagged out by catcher Jason Phillips.
