St. Louis Cardinals: Mark McGwire, who has kept a low profile other than his testimony before Congress this spring, since retiring, will be among the former Cardinals who will be in St. Louis for the final weekend at Busch Stadium.

Others expected to be there according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: Steve Carlton; Lee Smith, Keith Hernandez, Bob Tewksbury and lefthander John Tudor.

Los Angeles Dodgers: J.D. Drew, who broke his left wrist July 3 when he was hit by a pitch, will have arthroscopic surgery on his right wrist and shoulder next week, the Los Angeles Times reported.

"I knew at some point I'd have to get something done, just for quality of life," Drew told the paper. "I could play with it, but they do nag. I've been feeling that for a couple of years and it's been gradually getting worse.

"Now it presents itself in a timely fashion to be ready for spring training."

Boston Red Sox: The team purchased the contract of outfielder Adam Hyzdu from Triple-A Pawtucket and unconditionally released left-hander Matt Perisho.

Hyzdu had been working out in Arizona in case he was needed. He will serve as a backup outfielder for Boston, which lost Gabe Kapler to a ruptured Achilles' tendon on Wednesday.

Hyzdu was 0-for-6 in five games for Boston earlier this season and 3-for-20 for San Diego while spending most of his time in Triple-A.

Perisho appeared in one game for Boston, allowing a run and one hit without recording an out.
