TORONTO -- The Toronto Blue Jays hired former outfielder Rob Ducey on Monday as a professional scout.

A Toronto native, Ducey will be responsible for spring training coverage as well as scouting the majors and minors throughout the season.

Ducey began his coaching career in 2004 as an instructor for the Montreal Expos' Double-A affiliate in Harrisburg and spent last season as the hitting coach for the Staten Island Yankees of the Class A New York-Penn League. He is expected to be part of Canada's coaching staff for the World Baseball Classic in March.

Ducey played parts of seven seasons with the Blue Jays, appearing in 188 games and batting .234 with 18 doubles, two homers and 31 RBI.
