Twins place Stewart on 15-day DL with foot injury

MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Twins left fielder Shannon Stewart
was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a left foot
injury. The Twins recalled Jason Kubel from Triple-A Rochester to
fill the roster spot.

Dr. John Steubs, the team's orthopedic doctor, diagnosed Stewart
with a slight tear of his left plantar fascia.

Stewart, 32, said he'd been in pain since the start of spring
training. Stewart missed two months with plantar fasciitis in his
other foot two years ago.

"I would say it's somewhat similar [to the 2004 injury],
although we don't think it's anything that will hinder him after 15
days on the DL," general manager Terry Ryan said.

Stewart last played on Friday, and the move was made retroactive
to Saturday. He was batting .298 as the team's leadoff man.

Kubel, who missed last season while recovering from knee
surgery, started with the Twins this season but was sent to
Rochester after hitting .188 in seven games. In 30 games at
Rochester, Kubel hit .283 with 13 extra-base hits, including four
home runs.
