Mariners' Reed, Morse to undergo surgery Thursday
Reed was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Monday after injuring himself while diving for a ball in a game on Sunday.
He saw a hand specialist, Dr. Carlton Keck, of Seattle on Wednesday and Keck recommended the surgery. Keck will perform the operation in which a plate will be placed in Reed's injured thumb.
Shin-Soo Choo was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday and was scheduled to start his third straight game in center for the Mariners on Wednesday night.
The Mariners also said Wednesday that infielder Mike Morse, who was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma last week, will have arthroscopic surgery to repair cartilage damage in his right knee. He was injured in a game in Tacoma last week.
The Mariners said Morse will be out 4-6 weeks. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Edward Khalfayan, an orthopedist and a team physician.
