Cubs hire first base, third base, bullpen coaches
CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs added three coaches to new manager Lou Piniella's staff Friday. Mike Quade will be the third base coach, Matt Sinatro the first base coach and Lester Strode the bullpen coach.
Piniella last week hired former Tigers manager Alan Trammell as his bench coach and previously retained Larry Rothschild as pitching coach.
Quade has been the manager of the Cubs' Triple-A Iowa club the past four years, compiling a 283-274 record. He has 17 years' experience as a minor-league manager and has been with the Cubs since 2003. He was Oakland's first base coach from 2000-02.
Sinatro was the Devil Rays' bullpen coach from 2003-05 under Piniella. He was also a member of Piniella's coaching staff in Seattle from 1995-2002.
Strode has been part of the Cubs' staff for 18 years, including the last 11 as minor-league pitching coordinator. He also has served as a pitching assistant with the major-league club.
