Ex-Padres manager Riddoch hired as Class A skipper
SAN DIEGO -- Greg Riddoch, who managed the San Diego Padres from 1990-92, was hired as manager at the club's short-season Single-A affiliate in Eugene, Ore. on Friday.
Riddoch has been in professional baseball since 1967, including nine seasons as a minor league manager with a career minor league record of 332-328. He most recently managed the Texas Rangers' short-season Single-A affiliate in Spokane in 2005, leading the team to the Northwest League Championship and earning his third title as a minor league manager.
Riddoch was promoted from coach to manager of the Padres midway through the 1990 season after Jack McKeon stepped aside to concentrate on his duties as general manager. Riddoch was 200-194 before being fired late in the 1992 season.
Also Friday, Jose Flores was hired to Riddochs staff as the hitting coach and Gary Jones was named roving minor league infield instructor.
