Ortiz wins Edgar Martinez Outstanding DH Award

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- There is no stopping David Ortiz.

The Boston Red Sox slugger on Tuesday won his unprecedented fourth straight Edgar Martinez Outstanding Designated Hitter Award.

Ortiz secured 60 of the 81 first-place votes cast by beat writers, broadcasters and American League public relations departments. Travis Hafner of the Cleveland Indians finished second and Oakland's Frank Thomas third.

Ortiz appeared in 138 games as a DH, batting .282 while leading all qualifiers with 47 home runs and 123 RBI. He also posted a .612 slugging percentage with 317 total bases and 26 doubles as a DH. Overall, Ortiz hit .287 with 54 homers -- a franchise record -- and 137 RBI.

The award has been presented annually since 1973.
