Royals reach deals with Riske, Day, Duckworth
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Royals and relief pitcher David Riske agreed to a one-year contract Wednesday.
Riske split last season between the Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox, going 1-2 with a 3.89 ERA in 41 appearances. The 30-year-old right-hander is 18-14 with 16 saves and a 3.59 ERA in 328 career games spanning seven major league seasons, his first six with Cleveland.
The Royals also agreed to minor league contracts with right-handers Zach Day and Brandon Duckworth, with invitations to spring training.
Day had surgery this year for a partial tear in his rotator cuff. He has a 21-27 career record with the Expos, Nationals and Rockies.
Duckworth was 1-5 with a 6.11 ERA for Kansas City in 2006. He had surgery in August to remove bone chips from his elbow.
