Muser hired as Padres' rookie-level manager
SAN DIEGO -- Former big league manager Tony Muser was hired as skipper of the Padres' rookie-level team in Peoria, Ariz., on Thursday.
Muser was the Padres' bench coach the last four seasons. His contract wasn't renewed after it expired on Oct. 31.
Muser managed the Kansas City Royals from July 9, 1997, through 2002. He previously managed Class-A Stockton, Double-A El Paso, Triple-A Vancouver and Triple-A Denver in the Milwaukee Brewers organization.
Also Thursday, Steve Bowden was hired as national crosschecker. He spent the previous 12 seasons in the Oakland Athletics organization. organization
