NEW YORK -- Infielder Miguel Cairo decided to remain with the New York Yankees, reaching a preliminary agreement on a $750,000, one-year contract.

Cairo, who must pass a physical for the deal to be completed, hit .239 with 30 RBI in 222 at-bats last season. He also played for the Yankees in 2004, then spent 2005 with the New York Mets.

In addition to his salary, he would earn $50,000 bonuses for 350 and 400 plate appearances.

His agreement was first reported Saturday by the New York Post.
