Dominican, Venezuela get routs in Series
CAROLINA, Puerto Rico -- Miguel Tejada had two RBIs and Anderson Hernandez scored three runs to lead the unbeaten Dominican Republic to a 12-0 rout of Puerto Rico in the Caribbean Series on Sunday.
Tejada, the Baltimore Orioles' star shortstop, went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs. Texas Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz had three RBIs and Hernandez, a speedy New York Mets prospect, went 4-for-5.
Philadelphia Phillies reliever Fabio Castro held the Carolina Giants (2-1) to a pair of hits in five innings. He struck out four and walked three for the win.
Losing pitcher Jonathan Albaladejo lasted only one inning and allowed six runs on seven hits.
The Dominican Republic's Cibao Eagles (3-0) face Venezuela's Aragua Tigers (1-2) on Monday. Puerto Rico plays Mexico's Hermosillo Naranjeros.
In Sunday's early game, Oscar Salazar homered and had five RBIs to lead Venezuela to a 13-3 victory over Mexico.
It was the first win of the series for Venezuela. Mexico is 0-3 after losing to Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Venezuela by a combined score of 33-4.
