Dominican Republic wins 16th Caribbean Series title

CAROLINA, Puerto Rico -- Miguel Tejada got two hits and drove in a run as the Dominican Republic won the Caribbean Series, beating Mexico 5-3 on Tuesday.

The Dominicans (5-0) clinched the title when Puerto Rico (3-2) later lost to Venezuela 3-1. The tournament ends Wednesday.

Overall, the Dominican Republic won the Series for the 16th time, one more than Puerto Rico. This was the fifth time that the Cibao Eagles represented the Dominicans and took the title.

Jose Fernandez homered and drove in two runs for the Dominicans. Milwaukee reliever Jose Capellan allowed two runs and five hits in 5 1/3 innings for the win.

The Dominicans and Puerto Rico play Wednesday, as do Venezuela (2-3) and Mexico (0-5). Oscar Salazar homered and drove in two runs in Venezuela's victory.
