Joe Torre says brother doing well after kidney surgery

5/4/2007 - New York Yankees

NEW YORK -- Yankees manager Joe Torre visited his
hospitalized brother on Friday and said Frank Torre was doing well,
three days after kidney transplant surgery.

After getting home at 6 a.m. following New York's doubleheader
in Texas, Joe Torre went to New York Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia
before going to Yankee Stadium for Friday night's game against
Seattle.

"He's very uncomfortable but I guess that's not unusual," Joe
Torre said. "He felt it was more uncomfortable than the heart
transplant. The doctor explained it to me today: When you're
dealing with stomach, you're cutting more muscles than you would
doing the heart, chest. Everything seems to be going well."

Frank Torre, now 75, had a heart transplant during the 1996
World Series, watching from his hospital bed as Joe managed the
Yankees to the title. Frank Torre spent seven seasons with the
Milwaukee Braves and Philadelphia Phillies over a span from
1956-63.
