ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Texas Rangers placed pitcher Brandon McCarthy on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday and activated pitcher Vicente Padilla.
McCarthy, who has a stress fracture in his right shoulder blade, was put on the disabled list retroactive to Aug. 11. He is 5-8 with a 4.79 ERA.
Padilla, the scheduled starter Wednesday against Kansas City, has not pitched for the Rangers since June 21. He is 3-8 with a 6.69 ERA.
Padilla, who was sidelined with a right triceps irritation, had a rehab start in Double-A Frisco on Friday. Manager Ron Washington has said Padilla would be limited to 85 pitches in his first game back.
