NEW YORK -- Seattle pitcher Felix Hernandez was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday against the New York Yankees because of soreness in his right leg.

Carlos Silva will take Hernandez's turn and Jarrod Washburn will replace Silva on Sunday, each moving up a day. Hernandez was rescheduled for Monday's game at home against Boston.

"It's still sore, and we don't want to press him," Mariners manager John McLaren said before Friday night's series opener at Yankee Stadium. "We want to make sure we get this thing right. We didn't want to put him in a situation where it might lead to another injury of his shoulder or something."

Hernandez felt a cramp in his right calf in the third inning of Sunday's 3-2 win over San Diego and remained in the game through the sixth. The 22-year-old right-hander, 2-4 with a 3.34 ERA in 10 starts this year, has been monitored by trainer Rick Griffin.

"He threw yesterday a little bit off flat ground and he had some soreness today. We're just trying to get the soreness out of there," McLaren said. "There could always be another change, but Rick feels pretty confident that he's going to be fine on Monday.
