Nationals' Zimmerman sits with sore left shoulder
"It was recommended by the doctor that he take the day completely off," Nationals manager Manny Acta said. "He didn't even take batting practice."
Acta said previously that Zimmerman would sit out Monday's game as a planned day off.
Zimmerman, who leads the Nationals with eight homers and 27 RBIs, injured the shoulder during a headfirst slide into second base at Baltimore on May 18.
Acta said Zimmerman will be re-evaluated after taking batting practice Tuesday in San Diego.
"He's going to take more days off in the near future," Acta said. "It would be impossible to say he's going to play every single day from now on."
When Zimmerman sat out a May 5 home game against Pittsburgh, it broke a streak of 205 straight games played.
