Westbrook was sent to the DL retroactive to Thursday, the day after he was activated to start against the Chicago White Sox. He is 1-2 with a 3.12 ERA in five starts this season and was on the DL from April 20 to May 28 with a strained muscle in his left side.
Tom Mastny, normally a reliever, will make his first major league start Tuesday night against the Texas Rangers in Westbrook's absence.
Mastny didn't have a decision and had a 10.80 ERA in two appearances for Cleveland before he was optioned to the Bisons on May 11. The right-hander went 1-0 with a 3.14 ERA in 11 appearances for Buffalo.
The Indians recalled reliever Jensen Lewis to take Westbrook's place on the roster. Lewis is 0-2 with a 3.58 ERA in 20 appearances this season for Cleveland. He was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on May 24.
