Granderson agrees to play in WBC
The U.S. team will begin play March 7 against Canada in Toronto. The semifinals and finals are set for Dodger Stadium March 21-23.
Granderson, who turns 28 in March, batted .280 with 22 home runs and 66 RBIs in 141 games last season for Detroit.
The five-year veteran is best known for his 2007 season, in which he became only the third player in major league history with 20 stolen bases, 20 homers, 20 triples and 20 doubles. Granderson finished with 26 steals, 23 homers, 23 triples and 38 doubles.
In November, Granderson was part of a six-person delegation that made a pitch to the International Olympic Committee for baseball to be included in the 2016 Summer Games.
