Valentin, Cintron agree with Nats

WASHINGTON -- Catcher Javier Valentin and shortstop Alex Cintron agreed Tuesday to minor league contracts with the Washington Nationals.

If added to the major league roster, Valentin would get a one-year contract calling for salaries of $850,000 while in the majors and $90,000 while in the majors. He could make up to $350,000 in performance bonuses based on games: $25,000 each for 60 and 70; and $50,000 each for 80, 90, 100, 110, 120 and 130.

If Cintron is added to the 40-man roster, he would get a one-year deal calling for salaries of $650,000 in the majors and $90,000 in the minors. He could make $150,000 more in performance bonuses based on plate appearances: $25,000 each for 250 and 300; and $50,000 each for 350 and 400.

Valentin is a .251 hitter over 10 seasons with Minnesota, Tampa Bay and Cincinnati. He batted .256 with four homers and 18 RBIs in 94 games last year with the Reds.

Cintron has hit .277 over eight seasons with Arizona, the Chicago White Sox and Baltimore. He batted .286 with one home run and 10 RBIs in 61 games last year with the Orioles.
