Geren expected to get one-year deal
The Oakland Athletics have made some win-now additions this offseason. Now they're expected to back up their confidence in manager Bob Geren with a contract extension.
Oakland is expected to announce that Geren has agreed to a one-year extension with an additional option year. The expected agreement was first reported by the San Francisco Chronicle.
Oakland assistant general manager David Forst said Sunday the two parties are "in discussions, close to finalizing something."
Geren has a 151-172 record in two seasons managing the A's. The team has finished third in the AL West both seasons under Geren.
The 47-year-old Geren is entering the final year of a three-year deal signed in November 2006.
