CHICAGO -- The Toronto Blue Jays called up left-hander Brian Burres on Friday from Triple-A Las Vegas to start Saturday against the Chicago White Sox.

Burres replaces rookie left-hander Ricky Romero, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a strained muscle in his right side.

Burres was 0-2 with a 6.97 ERA in three games in Triple-A. He went 7-10 with a 6.04 ERA in 31 games with Baltimore last season.

Right-hander Bryan Bullington was called up Thursday to replace closer B.J. Ryan, who has soreness between his shoulder and back.

Bullington was 1-1 with a 1.86 ERA in four relief appearances in Triple-A.
