SAN FRANCISCO -- Washington's Lastings Milledge will be out six to eight weeks following surgery on his broken right ring finger, the latest setback for the Nationals' former starting center fielder.
Milledge was injured Monday while trying to bunt in a game with Triple-A Syracuse, where he was sent after seven games with Washington this season.
Milledge began the year as the Nationals' leadoff hitter, even getting a spot on the cover of Washington's media guide. After his demotion, he batted .253 with no homers in 22 games with Syracuse.
Washington manager Manny Acta said Milledge underwent surgery Tuesday to insert a pin and a screw into his finger. He won't be able to throw for at least six weeks.
