MINNEAPOLIS -- The Milwaukee Brewers are holding shortstop J.J. Hardy out of the lineup for the rest of their series at Minnesota because of back spasms.

Hardy got hurt while running the bases and left in the fourth inning of Friday's game against the Twins. He was out of the lineup Saturday, when manager Ken Macha said he'd keep Hardy on the bench for at least Sunday's game, too.

Hardy has had problems with his back in the past, but said this isn't as serious as previous cases. He said it's "annoying, more than anything."

Craig Counsell played shortstop Saturday in his place.
