Tribe send down LaPorta, recall Crowe
The move was done prior to Cleveland's 5-1 win over Tampa Bay. Afterward, the Indians optioned left-hander Rich Rundles to Columbus and recalled lefty Zach Jackson to start Wednesday night against the Rays.
LaPorta is considered by Cleveland to be the key to the blockbuster deal that sent CC Sabathia to the Milwaukee Brewers for four players in July. He was 8 for 42 with one home run and four RBIs in 13 games since his May 3 debut. He was 0 for 4 Monday in Cleveland's 11-10 come-from-behind win over Tampa Bay.
Crowe opened the season with the Indians, and was 6 for 33 before being optioned to Columbus when LaPorta was called up.
Jackson, also acquired from the Brewers, had a 5.79 ERA in 4 2/3 innings over two relief outings for Cleveland this season before being optioned out on April 22. In seven appearances, including four starts at Columbus, he went 3-2 with a 3.09 ERA.
