O's unsure when Uehara will return
Uehara hasn't picked up a baseball since his last start on June 23 against the Florida Marlins. He was placed on the DL on Sunday with a strained elbow.
The result of the arthrogram, a test to examine joints, was not immediately available. Manager Dave Trembley said the examination was not prompted by Uehara's elbow getting worse.
"Nothing happened," Trembley said. "What I was told was the symptoms were still the same. The swelling had gone down, the inflammation had gone down. But from a precautionary standpoint, the next thing to do is to do this test and see what's going on. I think this is just the next step in the progression of evaluating his arm."
Uehara, the first Japanese-born player in Orioles history, will not accompany the team on its upcoming trip through Anaheim and Seattle. Instead, the 34-year-old will work with a physical therapist in Baltimore and begin a throwing program -- if his arm allows it.
Uehara is 0-4 with six no-decisions since his last win, on April 13.
