Manny pinch hits on day off

SAN DIEGO -- Manny Ramirez was not in the Los Angeles Dodgers' starting lineup for the first time since he returned from a 50-game drug suspension on Friday.

Ramirez was initially given the day off by manager Joe Torre but was inserted as a pinch hitter in the 11th inning, flying out to right field against Rockies reliever Mike Adams.

"I want to give him a chance to rest his legs," said Torre.

Ramirez, who has come out after six innings in both of his two games back, hit his first post-drug suspension home run Saturday. The solo homer was Ramirez's seventh of the season and tied Jimmie Foxx for 16th on the all-time list with 534.
