Belisario tests good; Wade recalled
Belisario was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right elbow. The rookie right-hander went back to Los Angeles for tests, which showed no structural damage. He will rest for a week before being re-evaluated.
"Good news," manager Joe Torre said. "I mean, when you know he had the reconstructive surgery in '05, you concern yourself. But structurally there's no problem, just some irritation in the elbow."
Belisario leads the team with 43 appearances. He is 1-3 with a 2.42 ERA in 48 1/3 innings.
Wade was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque, where he pitched in two games after being sent down June 26. He went 2-3 with a 5.88 ERA in 25 games for the Dodgers earlier this season.
"His velocity, his stuff has been consistent," Torre said, adding that he plans to use Wade in middle relief.
Also, right-hander Jason Schmidt threw 87 pitches over six innings Tuesday in his latest rehab outing with Albuquerque. Schmidt allowed four earned runs and seven hits, striking out five and walking one.
Torre said the report he got was "OK."
"I guess he gave up a three-run homer. Velocity was OK," the manager said. "We're going to take a look and see where we are. But he didn't go backward. He just didn't move forward again."
Schmidt has been sidelined all season following shoulder surgery. The Dodgers must decide soon whether to activate him.
"We'll have to evaluate and just see if it makes sense to continue or to cut it off again," Torre said.
