PHOENIX -- The Florida Marlins have sent Sean West to Double-A Jacksonville after the left-hander struggled in a 5-1 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday night.

West (3-4) had a 4.91 ERA in 10 starts for the Marlins. He gave up five runs on nine hits in 4 2/3 innings on Saturday night.

Florida purchased the contract of former Minnesota reliever Luis Ayala from Triple-A New Orleans.

In another move, the Marlins transferred right-hander Anibal Sanchez to the 60-day disabled list. He had been on the 15-day DL with a sprained shoulder since June 4.

The 6-foot-8 West began the season in Jacksonville, going 4-2 with a 4.85 ERA before being called up by the Marlins on May 23. Ayala had not given up a run in three innings of relief for New Orleans. He was 1-4 with a 4.18 ERA in 38 appearances with the Twins.
