Red Sox use Anderson to spell Drew

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Boston Red Sox have recalled outfielder Brian Anderson from Triple-A Pawtucket and placed him in the starting lineup so ailing J.D. Drew can rest.

Anderson was batting eighth and playing right field Saturday night against the Texas Rangers as Drew rested a sore groin. Anderson was acquired from the Chicago White Sox on July 28.

Red Sox manager Terry Francona says Drew suffered the injury late in Friday night's game against Texas and probably will sit for a couple of games.

Drew hit a two-run homer, his first since July 8, in the ninth inning of Boston's 8-4 victory.

The Red Sox optioned outfielder Josh Reddick to Pawtucket to make room for Anderson.
