Yanks' Damon has bruised right knee

BOSTON -- Johnny Damon left the New York Yankees' game against the Boston Red Sox on Friday night with a bruised right knee.

Damon spun to the ground after fouling Brad Penny's pitch off his leg in the first inning. He then sat near the batter's box while he was checked by a trainer as manager Joe Girardi looked on.

Damon remained in the game and struck out when he failed to check his swing but didn't take the field when the Red Sox came to bat. Eric Hinske replaced him in left field.
