Roayls' Hillman will miss all of A's series
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Kansas City Royals manager Trey Hillman has left the team to be with his family following the death of his father-in-law.
Hillman accompanied the Royals on their flight from Seattle to Oakland on Sunday night and was notified shortly after that his father-in-law had passed away in Texas. Hillman left immediately and will miss all three games of Kansas City's series against the Athletics.
Bench coach John Gibbons will be Kansas City's interim manager until Hillman returns.
"I've got a good idea how he does things and what he wants to do," said Gibbons, who filled in as the Royals' manager earlier this season. "So I'll just run with that."
