Byrnes near return from broken hand

DENVER -- Arizona outfielder Eric Byrnes could rejoin the Diamondbacks this weekend and play on Saturday or Sunday against the Colorado Rockies.

Manager A.J. Hinch says the right-handed Byrnes could be available to play on Saturday but more likely would return to the lineup on Sunday, against left-hander Jorge De La Rosa.

Byrnes has missed 64 games because his left hand was broken when he was hit by a pitch on June 25 against the Texas Rangers.

He has been on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Reno the past two weeks. When he was hurt, Byrnes was batting .216 with five home runs and 24 RBI.
