CLEVELAND -- Cross Boston pitching coach John Farrell off Cleveland's managerial wish list.

Farrell tells The Plain Dealer for a story on its Web site that it was an honor to be considered for the job but he feels he has to fulfill his commitment to the Red Sox.

The newspaper reported Farrell called Indians general manager Mark Shapiro on Wednesday and told him he was staying with Boston. Farrell pitched for Cleveland and was a farm director for the club.

ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney reported Oct. 3 that Farrell would not pursue the Indians job.

Shapiro and assistant GM Chris Antonetti are conducting phone interviews with up to 10 candidates. They will bring the finalists to Cleveland for a second round of interviews and hope to have a new manager by the end of the World Series.

The Indians fired Eric Wedge last month.
