KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Minnesota Twins have placed infielder Nick Punto on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hip flexor.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire made Punto his starting third baseman just before the season started. But he has played in only three games and is hitting .125. The move is retroactive to April 16.

Brendan Harris has been playing in Punto's absence.

The Twins will recall infielder Luke Hughes from Triple-A Rochester on Saturday to fill the roster spot. Hughes hit .267 with eight doubles in 12 games for the Red Wings.
