Oakland's Duchscherer injures left hip

TORONTO -- Oakland Athletics right-hander Justin Duchscherer left Thursday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays in the fourth inning because of a sore left hip.

Manager Bob Geren and trainer Stephen Sayles came to the mound to check on Duchscherer when he grimaced after throwing a pitch to Toronto's Jose Bautista. Duchscherer stayed in the game but was replaced after Bautista lined a single to center. He limped back to the dugout.

Jerry Blevins came on in relief and immediately gave up a three-run home run to Toronto's John Buck, giving the Blue Jays a 5-3 lead.

Duchscherer came in 2-0 with a 1.82 ERA in four starts but allowed four runs and five hits in 3 1-3 innings in this one, raising his ERA to 2.89.
