BALTIMORE -- The Baltimore Orioles will recall Brad Bergesen from Triple-A Norfolk and start the right-hander against the Boston Red Sox on Saturday.

Bergesen will oppose Boston's Daisuke Matsuzaka, who is making his first start of the season after being sidelined by back and neck issues since early in spring training.

Bergesen was demoted to Norfolk on April 20 after beginning his second big league season at 0-2 with a 12.19 ERA over three starts. He was 7-5 with a 3.43 ERA as a rookie last season.

Manager Dave Trembley talked with Bergesen on Friday and said the pitcher is "more relaxed, a lot more sure of himself." Trembley said Bergesen last month was overthrowing and relying too heavily on his breaking ball.

Bergesen will be recalled either Friday night or Saturday, and the Orioles will make a corresponding roster move at that time.
