Groin puts Giants' Renteria on 15-day DL
NEW YORK -- Giants shortstop Edgar Renteria has been placed on the disabled list because of a strained right groin.
San Francisco optioned Eugenio Velez to Triple-A Fresno before Friday night's game at the New York Mets. The Giants recalled infielder Ryan Rohlinger from Fresno and selected the contract of right-hander Denny Bautista from the Grizzlies.
Renteria missed four games before rejoining the lineup Thursday at Florida. He aggravated the injury while turning a double play and left for a pinch hitter in the third inning.
Juan Uribe was at shortstop for the series opener at New York.
Velez is batting .186 following an 0-for-17 slide.
