Sources: Burrell may land with Giants

Former Tampa Bay Rays designated hitter Pat Burrell began talks with the San Francisco Giants and one other team about a minor league deal on Thursday, according to sources.

If Burrell signs, he would be paid minimum salary, after being released by the Rays earlier this month. He was hitting .202 through 24 games with two homers and 13 RBIs.

The Giants appear to be a strong fit, given their need for a corner outfielder and the fact Burrell is from the area. He attended high school in San Jose.

Burrell, a 10-year veteran, was part of the 2008 Phillies' World Series team. He is a lifetime .253 hitter with 267 homers.
