Phillies slugger to start against Marlins
Manager Charlie Manuel gave Werth the night off Friday, a game where the Phillies wound up beating the Florida Marlins 3-2 to snap a five-game losing streak and what was a 30-inning scoreless drought.
Manuel indicated he wanted to give Werth a quick break, just because he was sensing that Werth was pressing at the plate.
Werth came into Saturday with a .309 average, 10th-best in the National League. He also was second on the Phillies with nine home runs and was in a three-way tie with Shane Victorino and Ryan Howard for the team lead in RBIs with 33.
