ATLANTA -- Left-hander Andy Oliver has been called up from Double-A Erie to make his first major league start for the Detroit Tigers against the Atlanta Braves on Friday night.

Oliver was 6-4 with a 3.61 ERA in 14 starts for Erie. Tigers manager Jim Leyland says Oliver is also expected to start against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday.

Oliver's contract was purchased after the Tigers optioned right-hander Jay Sborz to Triple-A Toledo following Detroit's 6-5 win Thursday night over the Mets in New York. Sborz gave up five runs and got only two outs during his big league debut Tuesday against the Mets.
