Orioles place Wieters on DL

BALTIMORE -- The Baltimore Orioles have placed catcher Matt Wieters on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring.

The move, made Thursday, is retroactive to July 10.

Now in his second season with Baltimore, Wieters is batting .245 with six homers and 29 RBIs in 77 games.

Wieters left Friday's game in Texas after running the bases and remained on the bench for the rest of the weekend. The Orioles waited before placing him on the DL, hoping the injury would heal during the All-Star break.

A corresponding roster move will be made Friday before the Orioles open the second half against the Toronto Blue Jays.
