ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Tampa Bay All-Star third baseman Evan Longoria might miss a three-game series against Baltimore because of a strained left quadriceps.

Longoria was out for a fourth consecutive game Monday night as the Orioles beat the Rays 4-0. He has resumed limited baseball drills.

The Rays' magic number to clinch their second playoff berth in three years remained at one. They retained a half-game lead in the division over the New York Yankees, who lost 7-5 in Toronto.

Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon said he would be happy if Longoria can play once the Rays go to Kansas City for a series that begins Thursday.

"I still think it's a couple more days out," Maddon said. "It's never comfortable. I really believe it's going to be fine. We just have to, probably, monitor what we do with him a little bit as we move forward. He may have to monitor how he moves in the game a little bit."

Longoria is hitting .294 with 22 homers and 104 RBIs in 151 games this season.

Dan Johnson filled in again for Longoria against the Orioles.
