ESPN analyst Bobby Valentine confirmed Wednesday that he has taken himself out of consideration for the Marlins managing job for 2011.
Valentine had substantive talks with the Marlins about their managing job after they fired Fredi Gonzalez in June, but no deal was reached, and the Marlins named Edwin Rodriguez as interim manager for the rest of the season.
Valentine said he has had constant contact with the Marlins about the managing job since the end of the season, but Valentine said he decided to go in another direction.
