The winner of the National League Rookie of the Year Award was announced Monday afternoon. Before the announcement, our panel of 74 ESPN baseball experts cast their votes. Their totals are listed below. Who gets your vote?
Buster Posey, C, San Francisco
Posey joined the Giants 48 games into the season, and his impact was immediate and powerful from both sides of the plate; he led all rookies in OPS (.862) and handled MLB's No. 1 pitching staff.
Jason Heyward, RF, Atlanta
Heyward was productive from Day 1, when he hit a home run in his first MLB at-bat. The 21-year-old came up with clutch hits all year and led all major league rookies in on-base percentage (.393).
Jaime Garcia, LHP, St. Louis
Garcia might have been the NL's top rookie of the first half (8-4, 2.17 ERA, .229 BAA), but he cooled off in the second half; he still finished with a 2.70 ERA, the best among qualified rookie starters.
HONORABLE MENTION: Starlin Castro, SS, Chicago; Tyler Colvin, LF, Chicago; Ike Davis, 1B, NY Mets; Chris Johnson, 3B, Houston; Mike Stanton, RF, Florida; Neil Walker, 2B, Pittsburgh.
