Jeff Francis on radar of many teams
NEW YORK -- Free-agent left-hander Jeff Francis has received varying degrees of interest from the Mets and Yankees as well as the Washington Nationals, Pittsburgh Pirates and Texas Rangers, ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick reports.
Francis, 29, went 4-6 with a 5.00 ERA in 20 appearances (19 starts) last season with the Colorado Rockies after returning in mid-May from shoulder surgery. He was shut down for a month late in the season with his velocity dipping, but medical reports on Francis have been positive.
Francis averaged nearly 15 wins a season from 2005 through 2007, but had only four wins the following year, then missed '09 entirely.
"To me, there's no question in my mind that I can be every bit as good as I was earlier this year and a few years ago," Francis told the Denver Post at the end of the season.
