Mark Wohlers, family escape house fire
ATLANTA -- Former Braves pitcher Mark Wohlers calls his wife a hero for saving him and their three young children from a fire that ravaged their suburban Atlanta home.
Milton Fire Department spokesman Andrew Kennedy says the home in Milton, 30 miles north of the city, was engulfed early Tuesday when firefighters got there.
Wohlers tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that his wife, Kimberly woke him up then got upstairs "quicker than I can blink an eye" to get the couple's children, ages 3, 5 and 7.
Kennedy said firefighters were told it was a porch fire. It quickly spread to the roof and the rest of the home.
Wohlers saved game 6 of the 1995 World Series for the Braves. He was traded to the Cincinnati Reds in 1999 and retired three years later.
