MILWAUKEE -- Tampa Bay Rays pitching coach Jim Hickey returned to the team on Tuesday after parts of his house in Florida sustained significant damage in a fire.
Hickey said he believed the fire began with a gas golf cart in the garage. He said it was extremely lucky that about 20 gallons of fuel nearby didn't explode in the process.
He said his three children were at the St. Cloud home at the time. His 18-year-old son, Austin, smelled the smoke and managed to call authorities while getting his brother and sister out.
Hickey says the cleanup of the thick soot and smoke in the house has already begun but that it'll be up to a month before they'll be able to return.
